Autocross

An autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a temporary course marked by traffic cones.  The autocross is an optional pre-meet activity.

Brandywine Motorsport Club (BMC) will conduct the autocross on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Glasgow High School at 1901 S. College Ave, Newark, DE 19702 (near routes 896 and 40).  Any street safe car, stock or modified, may compete except the stock MINI Countryman due to its high center of gravity and small footprint.  Entry fee for the day is $30 ($25 for BMC members).

The venue will open between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., with registration and check-in to open at approximately 8:30 a.m. and close at 10:00 a.m.  Autocross participants may arrive any time during the registration and check-in period, but the earlier the better – especially for novices.

The first competition run will start at approximately 10:30 a.m., and competition runs usually wrap up around 3:30 p.m.  Typically, there is time enough for six competition runs, more if time permits.

BMC expects to have a morning and afternoon heat, with Run Groups A, B, and C in each heat and drivers assigned approximately equally between Run Groups for each heat.  Drivers will run in their assigned group, then, depending on work assignment schedule, either work the course while another group runs or be a spectator.

Classes are determined by make/model and modification level in order to account for performance differences.  BMC will award trophies to the top 2-3 drivers of each class.

Drivers must be age 18 years or older and have a valid license.  All drivers and observers must sign a waiver.

All drivers and passengers must wear a helmet.  Any good condition DOT or Snell rated motorcycle helmet (or better) will do.  There is no need to purchase a helmet just for this event as BMC does have a limited number of loaners available.

After registration, check-in, and inspection are complete, drivers are free to walk the course to get familiar with the layout (time permitting).  The course will close for walking at approximately 10:15 a.m.  BMC will review safety protocol and event process at a Driver's Meeting.

We encourage autocross participants to review event information for details about the race and facility, and to preregister at the BMC event web site.

Awards Banquet

The awards banquet will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.  This ticketed event, held at the host hotel, includes a catered buffet dinner and presentation of awards.

Car Show

The Mini Meet East 2015 car show, held in the east parking lot of the host hotel, is yet another fun opportunity for registered car owners to compete for awards.  Show field opens for parking at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.   Voting starts at 10:00 a.m. All votes must be turned in by 12:00 p.m.  Based upon popular vote, there are awards for the following classes:

Funkhana

The Funkhana is a tradition at Mini meets.  It is a low-speed, lighthearted automotive activity that reflects the area where the meet is held and combines driving dexterity, navigational skill, mental and physical coordination, teamwork between driver and navigator, luck, patience, and above all, a sense of humor.

Each car takes about two to seven minutes to complete the course, with both the driver and navigator busy doing tasks while negotiating a course.

The Mini Meet East 2015 Funkhana, scheduled for 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015, takes place in the parking lot at St. Michaels Middle/High School, 200 Seymour Avenue, St. Michaels, MD  21663 (near the intersection of Seymour Avenue and S. Rallye and Tour

The Rallye and Tour will depart the host hotel at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 and scheduled to return at 1:00 p.m.  There will be a driver's meeting that day from 8:45 9:00 a.m.  Portions tolls, cash only.

Designed as a fun event with a goal to be just difficult enough to be challenging but safe without creating team conflicts, the rallye begins and ends at the hotel parking lot.  Shortly before the start of the rallye, participants receive route instructions and an answer sheet to turn in at the end of the route.

The start: Cars will line up starting at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot of the host hotel.  Cars will be flagged off in 30-second intervals.

Route instructions: Participants are to complete each instruction in the order given before starting the next one.  In the absence of specific instructions to turn, proceed as straight as possible.  There are loops and crossovers on the Rallye, so if you see another Rallye car, do not automatically follow that car since that car may be executing a different instruction.

Questions: Participants receive a set of questions to answer long the route.  Each question applies to the portion of the route between the two points listed.  For safety reasons, answers to questions will not be found within 200 yards of any route location.

Signs: Signs referred to in the questions will be in quotes (“ ”) but they may or may not be quoted in full.  To qualify for an award, spelling must be exact; however, punctuation, spacing, and upper/lower case need not be exact.  Signs will appear either in front of you, to your left or right, but not behind you.

The Remote Control Car event, scheduled for 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015, will take place in the parking lot at the host hotel.  Prior to racing a general tech inspection will be performed at the RC Tech inspection table in the parking lot.

There will be three different types of races:  Kids race, Anything goes race, Tamiya M-Chassis race.

The Tamiya M-Chassis class is open to all drivers.  M-Chassis is one of the most popular classes at TAMIYA Championship Series (TCS) events.  The M-Chassis class features low cost, fun and competitive racing.  Recommended Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced adults and teens or qualified young adults.
